Sagging gutters and a roofline that looked tired from the ground. What the ground never shows is the timber behind it. Once the old fascia came off, the boards underneath were rotten and the gutters had pulled away from them — which is why they were sagging in the first place.

Full strip of the old fascia, soffit and guttering, replacement of the rotten timber behind it, and a complete new PVC fascia, soffit and gutter system fitted end to end. Walked through on site with the customer when it was finished.

A classic cast iron gutter run on the Sisters of Mercy building in Limerick, with failed brackets and damaged sections. The straightforward commercial answer is to strip cast iron off and put PVC up. On a building like this one, that is the wrong answer and it is not reversible.

Bad slates, bad battens and failed felt — problems that went back to the original build rather than to age or a storm. A roof like this cannot be patched honestly, because there is nothing sound underneath to fix the patch to.

A failing felt roof that had already got water into the building — so the damage was no longer confined to the roof. Two separate problems at that point: stop the water, and make good what the water reached.

A leaking roof and completely blocked gutters at a commercial E-toll site in Limerick, filmed in the condition we found them. Blocked gutters are the quiet half of this: water that cannot get away goes somewhere, and on a commercial building it usually goes inside before anyone notices it is going anywhere at all.

The leak traced and repaired and the gutter runs cleared and put back into working order. Separately, and before anyone goes near a roof on a live tolled motorway plaza, there is a paperwork screen to pass: a job-specific risk assessment and method statement written for that building and graded against the main contractor’s own fourteen-point checklist, certificates of employer and public liability insurance, a completed safety induction for every man going on site, named operatives with their working-at-height and manual handling tickets in date, traffic-management and power-isolation determinations made in our own risk assessment and stated with the reasoning behind them, Class 3 high-visibility PPE, the 110v site rule, and product safety data sheets submitted in advance for approval.
